Food and beverages can be purchased from our Licensed restaurant “The Sea Breeze” We are also licensed to sell alcohol on the island, due to the strict alcohol laws of the region, you are not permitted to bring your own alcohol onto the island.
At Banubanu Beach Retreat, we’re honoured to offer our overnight guests (staying two nights or more) the rare opportunity to connect with the Gutjangan community of Bremer Island and experience their living culture firsthand. Activities may include learning about bush medicine, spear making, traditional fishing or crabbing, and listening to local stories and history.
Please note: Cultural experiences are subject to availability, and the Gutjangan community may cancel or postpone for cultural reasons. We appreciate your understanding and respect for their traditions.
As we are one of the very few places you can swim in the top end, you can take to the water and explore our pristine surroundings at your own pace. Bring along your fishing gear and enjoy a peaceful cast from one of our designated rock fishing spots. Bremer Island offers an exceptional setting for beach and fly fishing, surrounded by pristine waters and stunning coastal views. (BYO tackle – bait available for purchase.)
Banubanu offers two self-guided walking trails that trace the resort’s boundary — perfect for guests to explore at their own pace and enjoy the island’s natural beauty during the cooler parts of the day. We have a map outlining the trails.
Overnight guests may be fortunate to witness turtles nesting on our beaches between May and October, when females come ashore to lay their eggs. Hatchlings typically emerge from July to November. Of the world’s six sea turtle species, four are known to nest on Bremer Island’s shores — a rare and memorable experience during your stay at Banubanu.
Although we cannot guarantee that turtles will be spotted, we will schedule this experience at dusk / early evening upon request

Fabulous service right from the pick up at the jetty. Plenty of time to enjoy the beachside cabanas before snorkelling or kayaking in the crystal clear bay. Perfect for working up an appetite for the scrumptious lunch!! Definitely a must do on your trip to East Arnheim land!
This is an outstanding place, with breathtaking views and utter tranquility. Ideal for a ‘get away’, retreat or a place to wind down. Lots to do and see – and the meals were chef quality. Warning – this is remote – off grid living, at its best.
We had the best day! Staff were so friendly and the facilities were great. The kids spent all day snorkelling and kayaking and have already said it was their favourite part of our holiday.
My friend and I were fortunate enough to stay the night at Banubanu resort! The highlights were definitely the food, strong cocktails, friendly staff and island dog. A big bonus is we survived swimming in the ocean! They also provide snorkels to hire. I definitely recommend staying the night, the day trip isn’t long enough
